Lady Hornets fall to Holy Redeemer in first round of PIAA playoffs

The Wellsboro Volleyball team's season came to an end at the hands of Holy Redeemer on Tuesday, November 10 at North Pocono High School in the first round of PIAA playoffs.
Redeemer, who came into the match undefeated, took all three sets on the night to eliminate the Lady Hornets. Redeemer jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Wellsboro got on the board. Redeemer's fast-paced, attacking offense overwhelmed Wellsboro as they took the first set 25-13.
Redeemer took the second set 25-14 and again jumped out early. Wellsboro got the score to 9-7 before Redeemer outscored the Lady Hornets 9-1 to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Redeemer took the third and final set 25-14. Wellsboro led 3-1 early, but Redeemer quickly rattled off six points.
The Lady Hornets battled back and tied it at 8-8, but Redeemer put an end to their scoring with a five point swing and outscored Wellsboro 17-6 down the stretch.
Senior Hannah Wagaman led the team with 12 digs, senior Haley Zuchowski had 9, and senior Darci Warriner pitched in 8. Warriner and junior Kirsten Florio each had three kills, and senior Mikayla Feil added two. Junior Morgan Florio and senior Maddy Kyle each had three assists and sophomore Brianne Keane pitched in one.
The loss ends the District IV Class AA champions' season at 17-3 (9-2 NTL Division 1).
