Wellsboro Volleyball sweeps Athens

The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team won their fifth consecutive game by sweeping Athens on Saturday, September 16.
Wellsboro remained perfect against Athens (10-0) under head coach Sharon Zuchowski by winning the first set 25-22 and taking sets two and three 25-17.
Senior Hannah Burnett led the Lady Hornets with 27 digs, senior Brianne Keane scored 17 points, had 9 aces, and made 19 assists; senior Cheyenne Sherman registered 5 kills, scored 10 points (3 aces), and made 18 digs, sophomore Caitlyn Callahan had 9 kills, and sophomore Megan Starkweather scored 5 points (3 aces) and had 2 kills.
Senior Jillian Graver also recorded 2 kills on the night.
Wellsboro's JV team also won on the night, defeating Athens 2-1 (25-15, 23-25, 15-3) to also improve to 5-0 this season.
The Lady Hornets (5-0, 4-0 NTL) host Central Mountain on Monday, September 18.
Middle School: Williamson 2, Wellsboro 1
The young Lady Hornets dropped their second straight game on Saturday to fall to 2-2 on the year. Williamson won the first set 25-21 and Wellsboro won set 2 25-16 to force a third set. Williamson won the third 18-16.
Emma Pietropola and Olivia Servatius both had spikes.
